Development of Automatix has been discontinued

Well the day has finally come, development of Automatix has been discontinued. We are doing this, NOT because we think Automatix is no longer necessary on Ubuntu and Debian, but because all of the Automatix developers have become wrapped up in more pressing commitments.

I, Jared, have been asked by Technalign Inc. to assist in the development of the next version of their GNU/Linux distribution, Pioneer Warrior. I will use what I have learned as an Automatix developer to make Pioneer Warrior the best GNU/Linux distribution for the average user.

Arnie, and the other Automatix Team members, currently are too involved in their personal lives to do justice to the Automatix project as well.

We thank our loyal users for the years of support they have given us, and we wish them well on their journey in the world of free software.

Ubuntu 6.10 reaches end-of-life on April 26, 2008

Ubuntu announced the release of 6.10 almost 18 months ago, on October
26, 2006. As with the earlier releases, Ubuntu committed to ongoing
security and critical fixes for a period of 18 months. The support
period is now nearing its end and Ubuntu 6.10 will reach end of life
on Friday April 25th, 2008. At that time, Ubuntu Security Notices will
no longer include information or updated packages for Ubuntu 6.10. Read the rest of this entry »

Best Way To Create Your Own Ubuntu

This is something that I have been toying with as an idea - creating my own distribution, based on the Ubuntu core, but making sure some basics that continue to go ignored are covered. In this quest, I have been led down an interesting road of discovery. Here are some of the tools that I think might be helpful, should you decide to take this path.

EnvyNG - The End of the Artwork Contest

First of all I would like to thank all the ones who contributed to EnvyNG with their icons and logos. You all did an amazing work. I received many works and they were simply beautiful, therefore it was very hard for me to choose only one. My choice is based on my (questionable) personal taste and on my (anything but clear) idea of what EnvyNG should look like, therefore I don’t expect everyone to agree with my decision.

In the end I chose Alberto Gasparin’s icon and logo which I find beautiful, stylish and representative of the spirit of EnvyNG:

Logo competition closing soon!

This past few weeks, we’ve had a whole load of high quality entries to our logo competition. We’re heading fast towards the 31st March deadline, so if you want to take part you’d best fire up Inkscape pretty sharpish!

Back in January I shared a couple of the entries we’d had at that time. As a bit of inspiration, in case your arty side is twitching, here are some of the proposed logos we’ve had since.
