Karmic Koala on the home stretch

Karmic Koala is on the home stretch: Keeping exactly to schedule, the developers made the release candidate of Ubuntu 9.10 available earlier today. As can be expected in the final development phase, the changes made since the release of the beta version three weeks ago mainly focus on fine-tuning and on including minor software updates.

Ubuntu 9.10 offers a new, more presentable boot screen and a standard desktop theme in very dark brown. By default, the system uses the Ext4 file system and the GRUB 2 boot manager. DeviceKit and udev have replaced HAL as the system’s hardware interface. The boot system has largely been transitioned to Upstart.
