Repositories will be down on Sep 18th

The main Linux Mint repositories packages.linuxmint.com will be down for maintenance on Wednesday September 18th from 9am London time onwards.

The downtime could take between 1 and 24 hours. We’ll do our best to go as fast as we can and to minimize the downtime.

You might experience error messages in the Update and Software Managers. Please ignore them as they are only temporary, or use one of the following workarounds below.

Workaround for Linux Mint 15 users

Launch the Software Sources by clicking Menu->Preferences->Software Sources.

In “Official repositories”, within the “Mirrors” section, click on the button for “Main (Olivia)”.

Wait for a minute or two as the Software Sources finds the fastest mirror for you and select it as a replacement for packages.linuxmint.com.

Once you’ve selected a mirror, click the “Update cache” button.

Workaround for users of other editions/releases

  • Go to http://linuxmint.com/mirrors.php, and scroll down to the “Mirrored repositories” section
  • Choose a mirror close to you and take note of its deb/deb-src address
  • Open a terminal and type “gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list” (without the quotes.. and if you’re using KDE/MATE replace gedit with the appropriate editor.. kate or pluma)
  • Replace all occurences of “packages.linuxmint.com” with the deb/deb-src address of the mirror you selected
  • Save the file and close the text editor
  • In the terminal type “apt update”

Don’t hesitate to ask questions or to seek advice. If you are confused by this warning and not sure what to do, just wait it out and be aware that the problem is on our side, that it is temporary and that it will resolve automatically. In advance I’d like to thank you for your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.
