The Ubuntu Technical Board has approved the proposals that now qualify the Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Edubuntu derivatives of Ubuntu to be Long-Term Support (LTS) certified for 12.04. Ubuntu has pushed out Long-Term Support releases every two years that are supported for five years (five years for servers, but previously for desktops it was three years, [...] Well, it’s that time of year again: it’s October, so another edition of Ubuntu has been released. This includes its official derivatives, like Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, and Edubuntu. Today I’ll be testing Edubuntu because I feel like it doesn’t get reviewed enough, yet it provides the same experience and support as standard Ubuntu, aside from [...] The Edubuntu development team is really proud and happy to announce that Edubuntu 11.10 has now been released. You may now try it online or download it. This release brings a refreshed desktop environment based on Ubuntu’s Unity while still offering you easy access to the familiar classic Gnome environment (through the Gnome fallback mode). [...] Before I get on with the rest of this post, I need to apologize for not having posted anything this week. It turned out to be a good deal busier than I anticipated, and even otherwise, there wasn’t a whole lot to write about, at least at the beginning of the week. That’s why, today, we are announcing that there will be an [...] Edubuntu is an educational operating system that is a part of the Ubuntu family. It aims to make Ubuntu, the popular Linux-based operating system, a great choice for the computing needs of children, students, parents, teachers, and schools. It brings many of the best educational open-source applications and tools to the Ubuntu operating system. What’s [...] This evening I had a great chat with a guy named David. He’s a 9th grade science teacher in Minnesota. He’s working on a project called Growing Communities Of Scientists in his school. He plans to use a set of “computer enabled science classrooms” which embed thin clients into a student group workspace. David’s also [...] The Education team is proud to announce the release of Ubuntu Education Edition 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex). This release includes both Edubuntu for the Desktop as well as Edubuntu Classroom Server for a thin client network environment. About Ubuntu Education Edition The 8.10 release continues the restructuring of Edubuntu as the Ubuntu Education Edition. The education [...] I’m on an Edubuntu users mailing list where, more often than not, veteran users can answer questions for new users. I usually give it a quick skim for any new features or fixes and then leave it to accumulate like so many other pieces of information in my Gmail account (hooray for increased storage!). Tonight, [...] |
