OpenGEU 8.04.1 Luna Crescente Live CD Released

Finally OpenGEU 8.04.1 Luna Crescente has been released and you can Download it now. This is a very important day for our team and project, this release is a milestone indeed. In the latest OpenGEU you’ll find a lot of new code, this is the first release in which we actually manage to develop something more complex than simple bash scripting, custom configurations and implementations :)

OpenGEU 8.04 has been released late compared to Ubuntu but nothing comes for nothing. In this time we developed a lot of new tools and enlightenment module, we just wanted to deliver you a complete OS, not something too much similar to a work in progress. We have a lot of new things in development already, naturally, but we’ll show you what’s yet to come in the next release, Quarto di Luna (which will be based on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex). So, compared to the old OpenGEU Luna Nuova, we have a lot of news of enhancements for you to enjoy:

  1. First of all, naturally, the new OpenGEU Themes Manager (geutheme), an incredible tool able of changing for you every part of the desktop with a mouse click; with the new theme manager, there you’ll find a big number of new themes in our repos for you to choose and install, but that’s not all: the themes manager is able to fetch new themes from the net or from a CD for you! With Geutheme you’ll also be able of customizing every little part of your desktop, create new OpenGEU themes, pack them and share them with your friends! You’ll also find the Desktop Effects manager, enabling for the E17 desktop fantastic bidimensional composite effects able of astonishing your friends even if you have a very old computer (even a Pentium I) or a Virtual Machine!

  2. Two full featured and complete new OpenGEU themes, specially designed for Luna Crescente, using the Murrine GTK engine, a beaty and very very fast GTK engine! So you’ll experiment new ver cool themes, way faster than those from Luna Nuova (installable from repos if you liked them) for your eyes and CPU cycles to enjoy :)

  3. OpenGEU’s not using gnome-settings-manager anymore, so the system is way lighter and we are already developing our own very fast and light daemon :)

  4. eTrayer, a new system tray based on trayer directly developed by Quaker of our team! With eTray you’ll finally have a fully customizable and eye-candy friendly system tray for your Enlightenment desktop :)

  5. A lot of new modules developed by Dave and Hannes J. from our team, like Extramenu, Trash bin (untill now there was no Trash at all in the E17 Desktop Shell :D ), and more!

  6. The latest E17 Desktop Shell available, compiled directly by our team with our own new repositories!

  7. A lot of new E17 Modules (like Gadman, OSX like Gadgets for your Enlightenment Desktop) and a big number of experimental E17 applications compiled for you, available online in our repos ;)

  8. The Live CD contains now even more software, more tools (and it’s therefore a fantastic system to be used even without an internet connection), out-of-the-box support for Flash movies (thanks to Gnash) and even more support for Network connections and proprietary codecs, thanks to Totem Media Player, able of automatically fetching codes for you ;)

  9. Lighter Gnome applications for your system to run even faster, like Claws-Mail and the Mirage pictures previewer!

There’s so much more to say on this release and I’m sure I’m forgetting something but for now I’d just like to thank my all team for having made this release possible and every user for supporting us in the forums and everywhere else! Download and enjoy OpenGEU now, you’ll judge our work with your own experience! :)

OpenGEU 8.04 Luna Crescente Beta Live CD for i386 machine released

Again, looks like I’m always late. Sorry for the delay people but I had some serious problems with reconstructor and am even going to write a little guide in my Blog about it, but now at least the i386 beta live CD of OpenGEU 8.04 Luna Crescente is here and it works ;)

Download it, seed it, spread it and install it if you don’t have OpenGEU yet. Or you can just upgrade from a previous OpenGEU system following our guide. If you prefer, of course install our distribution from packages ;)

The Beta release is somehow an RC candidate, as I said, and I’m going to build now a Live CD for 64bit machins too, just give me some time since I don’t have a native 64 bit system. The new Ubuntu is close and this release is getting somehow weird in timing but fear not, it is a great release and it works really fine, there has been tons of updates and new software and it is based on an LTS, therefore it will surely last for long on your system ;)

Enjoy the great work of the OpenGEU team and thanks to every single member who made this enormous step forward in developing a user friendly E17 system possible!

So, what are you waiting for? Download the iso now and burn it!
